Byrne – Green Federal Office Building
William J. Green, Jr. – Federal Office Building, Philadelphia, PA: Air Handling Unit Replacement (32 units) for 600,000 SF, 11 Story Federal Office Building located at 7th and Arch Streets. This project was part of the ARRA stimulus program. The project requirements were to replace thirty two multi-zone air handling units that were original equipment for the 1970s facility. Our responsibilities included all necessary mechanical, electrical and building control design for variable air volume (VAV) air handling units, with VAV boxes and relief fans. We recommended the use of polarization type filters with a minimum MERV 13 rating giving the owner the ability to reduce the ventilation rates below ASHRAE 62.1-2007 requirements. We performed energy modeling calculations utilizing Carrier’s HAP E20II program to show the energy savings from the original system and after implementation of the polarization filtration.
